Peter is Chairman of the Mail & Guardian, member of the Unisa Council, director on the boards of Mapungubwe Institute for Strategic Reflection, Wesbank, Business Against Crime and Special Olympics South Africa.

Carel is the author of several English and Afrikaans novels as well as being a director of several unlisted companies. Previously, he held executive positions with AMB Capital and Comparex Limited.
